This painting portrays Olga Khokhlova, Picasso`s first wife. Their deteriorating marriage is revealed through the tension seeping from this tortured woman. Olga, a reserved and cool wife, was becoming delusional, and Picasso releases his frustration at her in this unsympathetic depiction.
